My Process
Data to Decisions Consulting engagements follow a repeatable six-step delivery process designed to help clients move from operational uncertainty to clear action and measurable improvement.
Note: this six-step process is designed for assessment-driven and larger-scope engagements. Smaller, clearly scoped projects follow a simpler path. I'll always recommend the approach that matches the size of the work and the client will never pay for more structure than the work requires.
Throughout this six-step process, I will ensure regular communication through scheduled check-ins, milestone reviews, and validation of findings to ensure quality control remains high.
-
Using a discovery call, I will understand the needs of the client and what services I can offer to meet those needs. I will create a proposal based on the client discussion and will review it with the client prior to signing. This ensures each engagement is scoped appropriately and set to deliver practical business value.
Outcomes: alignment on business objectives, key pain points, and success measures; signed assessment phase SOW and timeline
-
I will perform a diagnostic assessment of the client's current state across relevant areas (strategy, operations, data, analytics, AI). Depending on the level and type of engagement this may include leadership interviews, document review, workflow mapping, data and AI analysis/readiness, and process improvement evaluations. This phase typically runs 2-4 weeks depending on the scope.
One of my core principles is to review processes to identify root causes, bottlenecks, and simplification opportunities (utilizing Six Sigma methodology) before recommending technology-enabled solutions. Process Excellence Before Digital Excellence.
Outcomes: identified areas of opportunities for improvement
-
I will provide a full assessment with a prioritized list of potential support options in order to help the client focus on the highest-value opportunities first. These may be advisory-only or hands-on execution depending on the need. If the client chooses to move forward, a separate SOW containing the initiatives to be undertaken will be drafted, reviewed, and signed. This two-phase structure means the client is never committing to full implementation costs before seeing the assessment findings.
Outcomes: prioritized roadmap with recommended actions, sequencing, ownership, and expected outcomes from the actions taken; signed implementation phase SOW for implementation support
-
Depending on the project scope this may include advisory guidance, BI and analytics solutions, or process excellence and automation solutions. Where possible and/or requested, I will collaborate with the client on the implementation in order to allow the client to gain a full understanding of the work and enable any necessary maintenance going forward.
Outcomes: completed work based on the SOW deliverables as well as relevant documentation to support the work
-
I will document any new processes, procedures, and guidance and will discuss these with the client. I will also offer any follow-up sessions to ensure continued success. My goal is to enable continued sustainment post engagement completion.
Outcomes: sustainment actions discussed and documented; scheduled follow-up sessions as needed
-
I will run a project closeout ensuring the client has access to everything they need related to the project, and I will ask for client feedback on the engagement. I follow Data Privacy & Security processes to help keep client information safe.
Outcomes: final review and closeout of the project; client feedback; artifact cleaning/destruction plan and completion
